InterGlobal
Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation is one of the benefits of an international private medical insurance (PMI) plan that differentiates it from a domestic PMI plan. While the benefit may not be needed that often, it is a life saver when it is. Take this example: One InterGlobal member, a 56-year-old man living in Nigeria was found to have an enlarged blood vessel in his heart.
Follow-up tests showed that he had a heart condition that meant he could potentially die at any time. Life-saving surgery was needed. The patient was evacuated from Nigeria to South Africa to have major heart surgery and is now back in Nigeria, recovering from the surgery and hoping to live a fully active life. While all international PMI providers offer an emergency medical evacuation and repatriation benefit, there will be differences and not all providers will offer the same level of cover.
You need to read the small print carefully to find out exactly what you will be getting; after all, you do not want to be left without a lifeline in a remote location, should a medical emergency arise. InterGlobal’s emergency medical evacuation and repatriation benefit, included on all of our plans, remains one of the most comprehensive on the market.
Our benefit covers the costs of evacuating the patient and all of their dependants (spouse or partner and children) or a close business colleague, the patient’s treatment costs, accommodation costs for the patient’s dependants or close business colleague and return airfares for the patient and their dependants or close business colleague to the country of residence.
We provide this benefit because we want to take care of our members and make their time away from home as stress-free as possible. Who wouldn’t feel better knowing that their family will be with them and taken care of if they need medical treatment?
